The one exception in amazing tier would be the pike beam and thats because its fairly easy to get something to break through shields and the trade off is immense. With the advanced edition update ive started playing ftl again after a half year hiatus.

Ftl ship tier list advanced. If this tier list were based on my experiences the zoltan a would be lower than the slug b. Arguably several zoltan or drone ships early on could screw you over but its well known that a 4 man boarding bay and 3 crystals and a cloak to start is laughably op rock b. All third layouts require advanced edition content to be on to unlock and play. The only ship ive piloted which more restarts let alone anywhere near as many is the dreadful engi b. Since ftl is a game of rng you want to minimize any variance as much as possible. However all ships were not created equal thus i have created a tier list of them based on their ability to beat the game on hard ranking them 1 28.
I may attempt to add the new ships to the tier list after some derusting and playing the new ships however i am currently in college nearing finals and am also invested competitively in other games so no promises. The universe of ftl is inhabited by friendly and enemy ships. There is only one ship in this tier as it easily stands above every other ship in the game. Faster than light ftl is a realtime strategy game with a space setting in which your crew must survive a highly lethal trek to search out and destroy the rebel flagship. Each ship starts with varying systems weapons power levels. Each player ship can carry a maximum of eight crew members of various races with an initial crew of between one and four members.
Within each tier the ships are organized in descending order of my perception of their power. The crystal cruiser and the lanius cruiser do not have a third layout. Halberd beam and leto is an awful awful starting arsenal good for sector 1 2 if youre lucky.
This game is highly randomized for each playthrough and death is permanent for both crew and ship alike. To unlock the third layout layout c of any ship for those ships that have a layout c the player must reach sector 8 with the b layout of the ship in question. The purpose of a tier list is not to discuss what could potentially happen but rather to evaluate relative strength in a vacuum. One of the best parts of ftl is the variety of ships you can play with. Every ship in ftl can become strong eventually with the right weapons and upgrades just as every civilization can become powerful in the civ games and every champion can dominate in league of legends with enough gold. Advanced edition introduces several new features to the game.
The weapons at the top of the list are consistently effective in almost any ship set up. It was released on thursday april 3 2014. Advanced edition is a major update for ftl.
