Its not only the only ship in the game with 1 crew its also the only ship in the game that cannot bypass tier 2 shields with its starting weaponry. Yes i know im years late but i only really got into ftl a year ago and i finally feel ive played it enough to create my own weapon tiers.

Ftl faster than light ship tier list. Each player ship can carry a maximum of eight crew members of various races with an initial crew of between one and four members. Since ftl is a game of rng you want to minimize any variance as much as possible.
The one exception in amazing tier would be the pike beam and thats because its fairly easy to get something to break through shields and the trade off is immense. Every ship in ftl can become strong eventually with the right weapons and upgrades just as every civilization can become powerful in the civ games and every champion can dominate in league of legends with enough gold. The universe of ftl is inhabited by friendly and enemy ships. The purpose of a tier list is not to discuss what could potentially happen but rather to evaluate relative strength in a vacuum. The only ship ive piloted which more restarts let alone anywhere near as many is the dreadful engi b. Engi a is a very polarizing ship but i think it should be higher stealth b does not belong with the trifecta of rock a engi b and slug b heres my rankings.
Each ship starts with varying systems weapons power levels. Mantis b has the best starting defenses of any ship and the insanely good 4 man teleporter. These ships come in a variety of layouts and can be equipped with various systems and subsystems weapons drones and augmentations. A tier kestrel b mantis b lanius b zoltan a. Too because its both a boarding ship and a gunship. B tier kestrel a federation a kestrel c engi a.
Moved stealth a to the top of c tier due to continuous user feedback on the placement of the ship. S tier crystal b. Starting weapons can only be found aboard the ship that has them i include crystal weapons because getting to the crystal sector to buy them is an extremely rare and difficult. This game is highly randomized for each playthrough and death is permanent for both crew and ship alike. The only upside it has is slightly more than average junk to sell off. Its only weakness is no way to get through zoltan shields with the starting equipment but the high value of that equipment more than compensates for the lost scrap. Halberd beam and leto is an awful awful starting arsenal good for sector 1 2 if youre lucky. Lanius b is a candidate. Zoltan a is arguably better than zoltan b. Engi bs downside is the entire ship not merely the crew which is worse than any other ship in the game. If this tier list were based on my experiences the zoltan a would be lower than the slug b.
Now this list is split into two starting weapons and store weapons. Crystal b belongs in a tier by itself.
